I try to keep up with as many of the upcoming musicals as possible, but it seems like every day I hear about a new one. (Witness the recently announced Sleepless in Seattle musical.) I recently received an E-mail from a regular reader who asked if I kept a list of shows that are in development. Well, other than my archives, I really didn't, nor did I know of one that was reasonably comprehensive. So, I figured I'd take a stab at it myself.
But, dear reader, I'm asking for your help in this continuing effort. I make no claims to being privy to every musical in existence. So, please take a look at my list, which henceforth will be available on one of my blog's subpages, right next to my lists of the 100 Best Musicals of All Time and The Musicals That Suck. And let me know if you know of any musicals aborning that I should be keeping track of.
I haven't listed any shows that are currently in the active process of opening, such as The Toxic Avenger and Happiness. I've
also tried to limit the list to new musicals (versus revivals) and to serious efforts, which basically means they
have an outside shot of actually making it to New York, or London, or
some other international theater Mecca.
