The current Broadway revival of Gypsy, which had previously announced a March closing date, will now be closing two months earlier. Apparently, ticket sales beyond the holiday season weren't robust enough to keep the show running through the traditionally lean -- and this year, downright anorexic -- winter months.
Of course, we shouldn't be surprised: one of the defining characteristics of the theatrical season has been the double closing announcement: shows that announce one closing date, only to move that date up because of even more disappointing ticket sales.
No word yet on how will this affect the previously rumored filming of this production.
